Zarate wants to fire West Ham into Europe
WEST Ham’s first summer signing Mauro Zarate believes his new club should be targeting European qualification next season.
The 27-year-old completed terms on a three-year deal yesterday, with the option of a further one-year extension and will move from Velez Sarsfield once the international transfer window opens in June. Zarate, who enjoyed a brief loan spell with Birmingham in 2008, said: “My aim is to come here and do my best in order to help the club to climb as high as possible in the table and to reach European competition again.
“This club is a beautiful club. I know English football from my time at Birmingham and I hope I will play well and reach the highest possible level.”
Hammers manager Sam Allardyce has added former England striker Teddy Sheringham to his coaching staff.
The club’s board last week stated their desire to appoint a new attacking coach with a view to encouraging a more attractive style of play from next term.
