YouTube could cut videos from artists like Adele, Arctic Monkeys
There may be some big casualties including Adele and the Arctic Monkeys when YouTube rolls out its new ad free service
In fact, any artist declining to sign up to the new offering will be given the chop according to this article in the Financial Times, which quotes Robert Kyncl, YouTube's head of content.
The Verge is reporting that YouTube wants its paid content to be completely ad free, and so will not let some artists post content under different licences.
The Google-owned video streaming site is keen not to have some videos with adverts and others without, "to ensure that all content on the platform is governed by its new contractual terms."
This means that any artists not signing up to the paid version will not be able to post for free either.
In the same Verge piece, the site quotes a source familiar with the situation as confirming most of the FT article including that the measures could be established in a matter of days.
