You don’t have to go Far West to find a winner
Racing fans around the country will be praying that tomorrow’s Betfair Super Saturday meeting at The Racecourse Newbury gets the go ahead.
It’s always a fantastic meeting, but tomorrow is going to be even more special as Denman and Sprinter Sacre will both be parading before racing.
The main betting race is the Betfair Hurdle (3.35pm), Britain’s richest handicap hurdle, and I’m going to side with Paul Nicholls’ FAR WEST at 12/1 with Betfair, rather than his stablemate Irish Saint who is likely to go off favourite.
I was down at Ditcheat on Monday and the trainer seemed quite keen on Far West’s chances. He disappointed last time at Haydock, but he relishes soft ground and Harry Derham’s 5lb claim will be a big help.
The Betfair Denman Chase (2.25pm) is all dependent on whether Al Ferof runs. However, I think Nicholls will pull him out due to the heavy ground and KATENKO is worth backing at a general 4/1.
He ran well under a big weight at Haydock last time and this course should suit him much better. He will plough through the mud and I strongly fancy him to give Venetia Williams another big Saturday winner.
It’s Royal Artillery Day at Sandown Park on Friday 14 February, which celebrates the bravery and dedication of the British Armed Forces.
The course is offering a special Valentine’s ticket package where you can get a pair of premier tickets and a bottle of champagne for just £55.
