World Cup star Ramires itching to begin career as Chelsea kick off in style
CHELSEA’S latest signing, Brazil midfielder Ramires, admits he is raring to get stuck into the Premier League after completing his protracted move from Benfica.
Ramires did not sign in time to feature on Saturday as the champions began their defence in style with a 6-0 thumping of top-flight newcomers West Brom. And the 23-year-old admits he worried at one stage whether he would ever seal his switch, which was finalised after a successful work permit hearing.
“I was a little bit worried because obviously it dragged on a little bit, but I tried to keep calm and do my training,” said the World Cup star.
“With a little bit of time I will get to know everything and I am sure I will be very happy here. Just to think that I will wear Chelsea’s shirt is a dream come true for any player.
“I know it is a very strong, competitive league, but I just hope that I can adapt as fast and as well as I can to give my best.”
Striker Didier Drogba netted a hat-trick in the opening match landslide, but expects the Blues to find this season tougher than last year.
“It is important for us to keep playing the way we did last year, but we must also try to improve because it is going to be harder,” Drogba said. “All of the other teams are improving in terms of bringing in new players.”
