Ski holidays 2015/16: With the pound getting stronger, Bulgaria is a better bet than the Alps for a cheap skiing break
There is one thing to look forward to in winter. It’s not Christmas dinner, spending time with loved ones or going on chilly wintry walks; it’s ski season.
According to London’s go-to luxury travel experts, more City slickers than ever will head to colder climes after a winning cocktail of a stronger pound and early alpine snowfall has led to the perfect climate for skiing and snowboarding holidays.
Michael Bennett at luxury travel provider Ski Independents told The Capitalist that the Alps saw its first set of snow over the weekend, and while bookings for holidays this year are pacing at the same level as 2014, the company expects that both the power of sterling and a longer winter will mean that “ski holidays this year are set to outstrip last year’s total.”
With the Autumn Statement out tomorrow, it seems prudent for City types to start thinking about how much money they need to spend on notoriously pricey winter vacations. Luckily, exchange providers No1 Currency have found out exactly where to get the best value for money on your next ski holiday.
Not surprisingly, a week on the slopes of Bulgaria’s Bansko would prove a promising penny-pinching place for UK hibernophiles. A week in eastern Europe including ski hire, passes and tuition for six days sets Brits back £295.
Not only that, but the price of a beer in Bulgaria (£1.08) is almost half of that in famous French resort Les Deux Alpes (£2.12). That’s all that matters.
