WINNERS & LOSERS
A WEEKEND is a long time in sport, as this lot will attest. But while for some it was a few days to remember, others may wish they had never set foot out of the house.
WINNER – MICHAEL DAWSON
The Spurs man was probably one of the few to consider Rio Ferdinand’s injury good news, but a chance to impress at the World Cup is just reward for a superb season in the Premier League.
WINNER – RYAN MOORE
What a 24 hours for the champion jockey, who broke his Classic duck by riding Snow Fairy to victory in the Oaks on Friday, and then topped that by landing the Derby at Epsom with Workforce.
LOSER – ROGER FEDERER
It may merely delay the inevitable, but Nadal’s win at Roland Garros knocks the Swiss off the top of the men’s rankings, just as he was about to equal Pete Sampras’ record of 286 weeks as No1.
LOSER – ROBBIE COWLING
Obscure, perhaps, but hilarious nonetheless. The Colchester United chairman was forced to post an apology on the club website after replying to a Norwich fan’s email with a stream of vitriol.
