Windies ready for England test series, insists captain Sammy
WEST INDIES captain Darren Sammy believes they can intensify their preparations for next week’s start of the Test series with England now that Assad Fudadin and Marlon
Samuels have arrived to face England Lions today.
Only Guyanese Narsingh Deonarine’s delayed arrival denies West Indies a full 15–man squad from which to choose; he remains in Jamaica and is awaiting clearance to fly after experiencing visa problems, though it is hoped he may yet arrive at some point today. “Once the process is finished, he’ll be on the flight,” said a team spokesman.
Batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has recovered from a bruised hand suffered against Sussex on Monday, as has paceman Fidel Edwards, who had been forced to rest a back “niggle”, and Sammy believes their additions will allow the tourists to fine-tune their plans.
He said: “The whole family is united and now we are preparing ourselves for the first Test match. We will come up with the best XI in these conditions to prepare ourselves for the Test match.”
