Wimbledon champ is top sports star of 2013
ANDY Murray, who in July became the first British man to win a Wimbledon singles’ title since 1936, was last night crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The Scot did not attend the awards in Leeds, but received the trophy in Miami where he is training. “I know sometimes I’m not the easiest person to support but I’ve had a lot of pressure on me for a long time. I’m glad I managed to do it,” he said. Second place at the BBC award ceremony went to British and Irish Lions player Leigh Halfpenny following the Lions’ 2-1 series win in Australia, also in July of this year. AP McCoy, the 18-time champion jockey, came third in the vote.
