Will Arsene Wenger roll in for Swiss style celebrations?
Switzerland will this week play host to an array of famous politicians, figures from the business world, and economists, as the World Economic Forum kicks off in Davos.
Despite being one of the few people in football’s higher echelons to hold a degree in economics, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is not expected to be present – but he could be dropping by in a different part of the country.
Fresh from yesterday’s crucial 2-0 victory away at moneybags Manchester City, The Capitalist understands that Wenger is “expected to attend” a cocktail party in Geneva tomorrow night, as IWC Schaffhausen launches its latest ranger of luxury timepieces.
Not a bad way of celebrating, eh? But with the transfer window closing days later, wouldn’t London’s ranks of Gooners rather Wenger was signing up new players?
“He deserves the trip after finally beating a top four team away from home,” the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust said last night. “And he’ll need his win bonus – what with the jump in the Swiss franc.” Who said football fans don’t follow the financial pages?
