Wiggo denied farewell glory
BRITISH cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins missed out on a glorious farewell from Team Sky as he finished 18th in the Paris-Roubaix one-day Classic yesterday.
German rider John Degenkolb won in a sprint finish after four-time Olympic champion Wiggins, who had made becoming the first British winner of this event his chief remaining road-racing aim, saw a breakaway attempt thwarted. Wiggins finished in a group 31 seconds behind Degenkolb.
Chaos hit the race earlier when some riders ignored warnings to stop at a level crossing, only for a policeman to step in and halt the peloton seconds before a high-speed train hurtled past.
