Wigan fail to keep lead again
TURKEY striker Tuncay netted a late header to preserve Stoke’s unbeaten start to 2010 and plunge Wigan into a relegation battle.
Latics midfielder Paul Scharner gave the home side the lead their sparky opening deserved when he headed in from 16 yards in the 14th minute. Striker Hugo Rodallega almost made it 2-0 when his overhead kick clipped the top of the bar, but once again Wigan let a lead slip and Tuncay headed home unmarked from a Matthew Etherington cross in the 74th minute.
Wigan have now dropped 16 points from winning positions this season – equal worst with Bolton – and hover just three points above the relegation zone in 14th.
They have gathered just seven points from the last seven games while Stoke, six points ahead in 11th place, are unbeaten in seven games.
