Who is Nokia’s new chief executive Rajeev Suri?
Nokia this morning appointed 46-year-old Rajeev Suri as chief executive officer to run its business following the €5.44bn (£4.48bn) sale of its handset division to Microsoft.
Last week’s sale saw former chief executive Stephen Elop return to Microsoft to run its newly acquired mobile division.
The ‘turnaround specialist’
Up until now Suri has led Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN), the telecoms infrastructure arm of Nokia that is set to become the cornerstone of its new business.
Suri joined Nokia in 1995 and moved up the Finnish firm’s ranks before becoming chief executive of NSN in 2009.
Over the proceeding five years Suri battled to turn around NSN in what the company describes as a “radical transformation” from less than a third of Nokia’s revenue to over half.
He is known as a ‘turnaround specialist’ in global tech circles.
“As Nokia opens this new chapter, the Nokia Board and I are confident that Rajeev is the right person to lead the company forward,” Siilasmaa said on Suri’s appointment this morning.
