White Knight could rival the Red Knights’ Old Trafford bid
A SECOND bid to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family is brewing, City A.M. has learned.
A group of wealthy City figures are desperate to wrest control of the club with a bid worth around £1.25bn.
But sources close to the deal say a rival “White Knight” bid could materialise as wealthy foreign investors look to capitalise on the unrest at Old Trafford.
The source said: “When you have this degree of noise you’re always going to attract attention. United is a prized asset and this protest is bound to have an unsettling effect on the club. This would seem like a good time to make an inquiry.
“It’s most likely a bid would come from the Far East, or perhaps another American.”
There has been speculation this is the reason Keith Harris was not nominated as adviser for the Red Knights. The source added: “If another deal did materialise Keith would definitely want to be involved with it.
“He doesn’t have any issues with the other Knights but if things don’t work out with them he would want to look at other alternatives.”
Nomura bankers Guy Dawson and Andrew McNaught were officially unveiled as advisers for the Red Knights yesterday. Harris was unavailable for comment.
