What to look out for at Canary Wharf’s Winter Lights Festival 2016
It's deepest, darkest January, and if rumours are to be believed, snow is on the way. But wrap warm – because Canary Wharf's Winter Lights Festival is back for the next two weeks.
Yep, the financial district is about to be set ablaze for the second year in a row, with 18 light-based "sculptures, structures and experiences" – from a "waterfall of illuminated words" to a sculpture activated by mobile phone signals.
It also includes a scupltural tribute to Syrian refugees, as well as a pool of 106 touch-sensitive pods installed on the ground.
Curator Keith Watson said the festival "demonstrates some of the most creative light installations and technology from around the world".
"Many of the works are interactive, creating enchanting experiences that will appeal to art lovers, families, or simply people looking for something interesting and free to do after work".
The festival runs from today until next Friday. Starting in Jubilee Park, it meanders through sites including Cabot Square, Crossrail Place and Westferry Garden.
