Westwood can weatherstorm after slow start
Damian McGrane of Ireland had the worst of the weather yesterday morning, but was four shots too good for playing partners Jerry Kelly and Darren Fichardt, despite shooting 79.
He should have the better of his two playing partners in their second round three ball starting at 12.14 today and is a surprisingly generous 6/5 with Ladbrokes to oblige.
Mark Calcavecchia is the value bet at 11/5 to beat Richard Green and Anders Hansen at 12.36 am. While at 12.58, Australian Geoff Ogilvy has to be backed at 5/4 to beat partners Oliver Wilson and Davis Love III.
Lee Westwood, pictured, will have been bitterly disappointed to shoot 75 in the first round, but is far from out of contention and would expect to beat Ben Curtis and KJ Choi.
Excellent
The key to Westwood’s round was an excellent back nine that could have been even better if a couple of putts had not slid past the hole.
He should be supported at 11/10 to win his three ball today and get right back into the event when he tees off at 2.09pm.
The testing conditions will be perfect for Canadian Mike Weir who yesterday beat Colin Montgomerie by two shots and American Boo Weekley by nine. Amazingly, he is 11/8 to do so again today. Tee-off time is 2.42pm. All prices are with Ladbrokes.
