West Brom 4, Burnley 0: Tony Pulis warns Premier League to be wary of Salomon Rondon threat
West Brom boss Tony Pulis has warned the Premier League to be wary of the increasingly venomous threat posed by Salomon Rondon after the Venezuela hitman’s all-action showing helped the Baggies thrash Burnley.
A rampant West Brom moved into the top half of the table courtesy of strikes from Matt Phillips, James Morrison, Darren Fletcher and Rondon, while shot-shy Burnley dropped to 12th, four points clear of relegation.
“Last year for Salomon was a struggle, he couldn’t speak much English and his children weren’t in school. The children are now in school and probably speak better English than Salomon,” said Pulis.
“But he understands things now and has become a bigger part of the group. In the canteen he now sits with the players whereas in the past he would follow Yak [Claudio Yacob] around and be worried about not understanding the lads.
“He’s a good player and has upped his game from last season. He wants to score every week, not just play well, and it’s lovely to see him on the scoresheet today.”
West Brom opened their account on four minutes when Phillips swivelled and lashed high past Tom Heaton, while Morrison doubled the Baggies’ lead after quarter of an hour by sweeping a low effort beyond the England stopper.
Fletcher tapped home from a Phillips cross on 36 minutes, while it was Rondon who settled matters by rifling home shortly after the hour mark.
