Wenger focused on Arsenal hunt for second place
ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has backed his side to chase down reigning champions Manchester City and secure the Premier League’s runners-up spot.
The third-placed Gunners head to relegation-haunted QPR tonight in a rich vein of form having won six of their last seven league matches, and lie four points adrift of Manuel Pellegrini’s stumbling outfit.
“If you ask a team who is four points behind us, they will say it’s realistic to try and catch us,” said Wenger. “Manchester City are four points in front of us so mathematically of course that is possible.”
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey returns to the Arsenal squad following a hamstring injury and Wenger is hopeful Francis Coquelin will play despite suffering a fractured nose against Everton on Sunday, although Jack Wilshere remains sidelined.
QPR interim boss Chris Ramsey, meanwhile, believes five victories from his side’s 12 remaining fixtures will see the 18th-placed Hoops, who are three points adrift of safety, retain their top-flight status.
He said: “We know that if we can get four or five wins that we’re going to be there until the end.”
