We won’t favour Lewis over Button, say McLaren
MCLAREN insist they will not favour championship leader Lewis Hamilton over Jenson Button as the F1 title race builds up to a finale.
Victories in Turkey and Canada, and second-place finishes in the European and British Grand Prix, has seen Hamilton take a 12-point lead over his team-mate at the top of the standings.
Indeed, Hamilton has beaten Button in each of the last five races, but as McLaren gear up for this weekend’s German Grand Prix, team boss Martin Whitmarsh says the each driver will receive equal support in their quest for the title.
“I’m sure Jenson hasn’t given way to Lewis’s championship charge,” Whitmarsh said. “He’ll want to win this weekend, he’ll want to move that momentum back in his favour – and that’s how it should be.
“Jenson is second in the drivers’ championship, has had two great wins this year and has proven he’s a great racing driver, a great reader of a race.”
