Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger plan special Berkshire Hathaway letters to celebrate golden anniversary
He may have admitted to getting it wrong as far as Tesco is concerned, but Warren Buffett still holds legendary status as the most successful investor of the 20th century.
His annual letter to investors is always an event and this year will be even bigger than usual as Buffett and his business partner Charlie Munger plan a special publication of three letters marking 50 years since the Oracle of Omaha took control of Berkshire Hathaway.
On top of his usual letter, both Munger and Buffett will compose an additional letter setting out the investment company's journey over the last half century and what they expect to happen in the next.
They will be written independently and without knowing what the other will say, allowing readers to compare the predictions – and allowing future investors to establish which was the better crystal ball-gazer.
But, with Buffett nearing his 85th birthday and Munger just past his 91st, it is not only the anniversary that makes this year special, according to Barclays analyst Jay Gelb.
“The most important thing to Warren Buffett is, how can he position Berkshire for the future so that it continues to generate increased value for shareholders,” he told the Financial Times. “I think this could be his most important annual letter yet.”
The letters are due out at the end of February.
