“Wanton vandal” developers must rebuild demolished Carlton Tavern pub brick by brick
A historic west London pub which was demolished by over-zealous developers without permission will have to be painstakingly rebuilt brick by brick after London planners slammed their "flagrant disregard" of planning rules.
Westminster council called the developers "wanton architectural vandals" and ruled they must rebuild the historic Carlton Tavern in Maida Vale within 18 months at a council meeting yesterday.
The popular local pub, which survived bombing during the Blitz, was bulldozed last month despite being under consideration for status as a listed building.
"We cannot live in a city where unruly developers can just knock down buildings as and when they please Westminster is home to the West End, not the Wild West," said council deputy leader Robert Davis.
