A vision for the future of King’s Cross: Show apartment is unveiled at The Plimsoll Building

King’s Cross is one of the largest and most exciting regenerations currently underway in London, and visitors got their first taste of what it would be like to live in one of its apartments last week. 

 

The interior-designed show flat at The Plimsoll Building was unveiled on the site next to Regent’s Canal and the re-erected frame of Gasholder No. 8, which is set to become an “urban park” like the rooftops of Battersea Power Station. This is the third residential launch at the 67-acre development, which is set to include over 2,000 new homes in total, 10 public squares, 26 acres of open space and 20 new streets. 

 

 

This building is set to house 277 apartments, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments and penthouses. Most will come with a balcony, terrace or both and the architecture – by David Morley Architects, which is also revamping Lord’s Cricket Ground – references the site’s industrial past.

 

 

The show apartment, dressed by Studio Ashby, is based on an imagined buyer who is “a purveyor of taste with a discriminating eye and a passion for beautiful things, with a strong interest in photography and travel”. It’s scattered with mid-century Danish antiques and a bespoke Italian marble-topped dining table. 

 

 

An ovoid helix staircase is set to dominate the entrance hall, leading up to a residents’ lounge and private dining room, as well as an enclosed Winter Garden on floors 12 and 13 inspired by Victorian glasshouses, comprising a balcony, library and piano. The Plimsoll Building is due to be completed this autumn.
