Vinyl records stage a return
MORE music might be moving online but even the world’s biggest internet retailer has felt the effects of the vinyl revival.
Amazon’s UK website has seen sales of vinyl records more than double in the last year, albeit from a low base. The retail group said today that Daft Punk’s latest album, Random Access Memories, had been the biggest-selling vinyl record on Amazon since 1999. The French dance duo have pushed Adele’s 21, the world’s best-selling album in any format during 2011 and 2012, into second place.
Other best-sellers include David Bowie and Pink Floyd. Figures from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry in April showed that global vinyl sales rose 50 per cent to 12m last year.
