Villa summon Grealish for meeting over Tenerife holiday photographs
PREMIER League side Aston Villa plan to hold talks with midfielder Jack Grealish after he was apparently photographed passed out on a street while on holiday in Tenerife.
Several pictures of the 19-year-old, who has represented Republic of Ireland at under-21 level but is also eligible to play international football for England, were posted on social media on Sunday.
“The club is aware of the photographs of Jack Grealish currently circulating,” read a club statement. “We will be meeting with the player but any action will remain an internal matter. There will be no further comment from the club.”
Academy graduate Grealish was warned about his conduct by Villa manager Tim Sherwood in April after being pictured allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide, which is also known as laughing gas.
“I explained to him his behaviour can’t be tolerated by the football club, we can’t condone that behaviour,” said Sherwood at the time.
Grealish enjoyed greater exposure to first-team football following Sherwood’s appointment as Villa boss in February, making a total of 24 appearances last term as the club avoided relegation.
He also played an integral role in the Villans’ run to the FA Cup final, in particular the semi-final victory over Liverpool at Wembley in April where he was heavily involved in both goals, scored by striker Christian Benteke and midfielder Fabian Delph.
