Victoria tube station to benefit from £700m facelift by 2016
VICTORIA tube station is set to receive a £700m facelift, giving the congested station a new ticket hall, escalators and entrances.
Transport for London (TfL) expects to start the five-year transformation next year and said that it doesn’t expect any disruptions to the hundreds of thousands of passengers travelling through the station every day.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “It will make journeys easier for the hundreds of thousands of passengers that use the station and is exactly the type of investment I am determined to protect in the capital.”
The construction of the new station will take place over two phases in a bid to avoid disruptions and large costs.
TfL said the first phase will see the development of the new ticket hall under Bresson Place, which is scheduled to start next year.
The second phase will see the addition of new lifts, escalators and an upgrade to the existing above ground ticket hall just outside Victoria train station.
“Upgrading Victoria Underground station is a key vital part of improving the Tube network,” said London Underground’s strategy and commercial director, Richard Parry.
