Vedanta shut operations in Goa
■ Miner Vedanta has shut its operations in Goa, it announced in a statement yesterday. Sesa Goa, a subsidiary of the FTSE 100 company and the largest producer and exporter of iron ore in India, has stopped iron ore extraction in the area. The order, with immediate effect, said that the suspension of operations will not affect the transportation of ore that has already been mined and existing in the area. The miner announced last week that its Lanjigarh mine in eastern India would be shut due to a lack of bauxite. Shares in the miner closed 2.44 per cent down yesterday at 978.5p.
