US PGA Championship prize money 2016: $1.8m earnings boost on offer at Baltusrol to Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and co
Victory in the US PGA Championship in New Jersey is the joint-second most lucrative prize money pay cheque for a single event on the golf calendar.
Reigning champion Jason Day earned $1.8m, the tournament’s largest ever winner’s reward, at Whistling Straits last year and the prize remains the same this time at Baltusrol.
That lucrative take comes from a money pool of $10m, tying the US PGA Championship with the other Stateside Majors, the Masters and the US Open, in its remuneration offering to players.
The Open Championship, won earlier this month by Henrik Stenson, offers £1.18m from a £6.5m pot, making it now slightly less valuable to players in dollar terms as a result of the post-Brexit weakening of the pound.

All four Majors are behind The Players Championship, which boasts of a $10.5m prize fund from which the winner is cut a slice worth $1.9m.
Since the US PGA Championship was last hosted at Baltusrol, the value of winning has shot up by 53 per cent from the $1.17m won by Phil Mickelson.
Ahead of the final Major of 2016, the top four highest earners of the year so far on the PGA and European Tours are also the last four winners of Majors.
World No2 and US Open champion Dustin Johnson leads the way with $7.2m pocketed already this year, reigning US PGA champion Day follows with $6.5m, placing him narrowly ahead of Masters winner Danny Willett on $6.4m and Stenson on $6.2m.
