The all-Italian final offers both Vinci and Pennetta the chance to win a Grand Slam singles title for the first time in their respective careers.
Vinci massively upset the odds with a win in her first ever Grand Slam semi-final over world No1 Serena Williams to scupper the American's hopes of a calendar Grand Slam.
Her reward is a meeting with fellow countrywoman Pennetta – also appearing in her first major final – and guaranteed prize money of at least $1.6m (£1.04m).
Never before has either player made so much from a single tournament, and the remuneration could be even sweeter with $3.3m on offer to the victor.
For 32-year-old Vinci, that would send her prize money earnings from 2015 soaring by a massive 781 per cent from $422,158 to $3.7m and represent 29 per cent of her entire career earnings which currently stand at $8.2m.
As for Pennetta, a win would make up 24 per cent of her career earnings and boost her season earnings by 463 per cent from $712,401 to $4.1m.
