Uruguay’s Forlan handed Golden Boot for star role
URUGUAY striker Diego Forlan last night claimed the Fifa Golden Ball as the outstanding player of the World Cup.
The former Manchester United front man helped the south American side to a surprise semi-final appearance with five goals, including blistering efforts against South Africa and Germany.
Forlan finished in a four-way tie for the Golden Boot with Spain’s David Villa, Holland’s Wesley Sneijder and Germany’s Thomas Muller, which Muller eventually took due to having more assists.
Villa and Sneijder took the silver and bronze balls respectively.
Muller also picked up the Young Player award, while World Cup-winning captain Iker Casillas won the Golden Glove.
