Unite union threatens round of fresh industrial action at BA
THE Unite union is expected to notify British Airways of another strike ballot today, which if successful could mean widespread disruption during the peak of the holiday season.
Unite has completed preparations for a ballot and voting could commence seven days after the union puts BA on notice.
If BA flight attendants vote in favour of industrial action, the strike could begin as early as 3 August.
Previous strike ballots have received upwards of 90 per cent support from union members.
The expected ballot comes after Acas talks between the airline and the union collapsed last week.
Unite has repeated its demands of the reinstatement of travel perks for employees.
In a recent letter to cabin crew, Unite’s joint general secretaries Tony Woodley and Derek Simpson said disciplinary action taken against some staff since the strikes began was “vindictive”.
Chief executive Willie Walsh has said the airline will fly through any further strikes.
He said last week he expects the airline to operate 100 per cent of all long haul operations during the next wave of industrial action.
