UK weather: The Met Office has revealed the UK’s first crowdsourced storm name… brace yourselves: Abigail’s coming
The Met Office has revealed its first crowdsourced name and it's the sort of thing that will strike terror into man's hearts.
But probably only if you were a fan of Mike Leigh's 1970s film Abigail's Party.
Yes the first storm to batter our shores under the Met Office's Name Our Storm project has been given the moniker Abigail.
The weather forecaster says Abigail will "bring strong winds across the far north of the UK on Thursday evening into Friday [and] has the potential to cause some disruption in these areas as a deep low pressure system crosses to the north of the UK".
It follows a yellow weather warning that has been issued for parts of Scotland, which are expected to see gusts of 60-70 mph, up to 80 mph in "exposed locations".
Eddy Carroll, chief meteorologist said: "There remains some uncertainty regarding the exact extent and timing of strongest winds but current forecasts suggest that this storm could have some medium impacts such as disruption to transport and so a warning has been issued and the first storm has been named as Abigail."
But if you ask us, they've missed a trick. We would have been much more impressed by Storm Abigale…
