UK slides down inflation rankings
Consumer price inflation in the UK fell to 4.2 per cent in December, taking it out of the top three in the 34 advanced economies of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Prices across the OECD rose by 2.9 per cent in the year to December, with the highest rate in Turkey at 10.4 per cent, and the lowest in Switzerland at minus 0.7 per cent. Energy continued to be the sector with the highest inflation, at 8.1 per cent across the OECD, with food price inflation at 4.4 per cent and all other items at an average of two per cent.
