UK jobs boost: hiring up by a fifth in a year
PROFESSIONAL recruiters have seen a solid uptick in the number of advertised vacancies, up by more than a fifth since the same period last year.
According to the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (Apsco), recruiters are reporting 22 per cent more vacancies now than at the end of summer in 2013.
The level of job openings reported suggests that the UK’s recent tumbling rates of unemployment are likely to roll on into Autumn. Engineering roles are in particular demand in comparison to last year, with permanent vacancies up by 42 per cent.
Remuneration in general still seems sluggish, with median salaries offered up by just 0.7 per cent since last year. However, areas such as engineering where employees are in high demand have seen salaries climb significantly, with offers up by 11 per cent during the 12 month period.
“Employers are currently using attractive remuneration packages to entice individuals, this can surely only go on for so long before demand completely outstrips the supply of talent in some sectors,” said Apsco’s Ann Swain.
