UK £1bn Rugby World Cup lift
BRITAIN’S economy is set to receive a boost totalling close to £1bn from hosting the 2015 Rugby World Cup, a report commissioned by the tournament’s organising committee revealed yesterday.
An economic impact study undertaken by accountancy firm EY predicts the showpiece event, which will be staged at 13 stadia in 11 cities across England in Wales, will attract 466,000 visitors and add £982m of value to the UK economy.
The report also confirmed that in terms of a single sporting event, only the football World Cup brings in more paid spectators.
The Rugby World Cup starts on Friday 18 September 2015 at Twickenham when Stuart Lancaster’s England take on Fiji in the opening Pool A clash.
