Uber is expanding its UberPool area just in time for Christmas
Uber is more than doubling the area in London where its car-sharing option UberPool is available.
From 4pm today, the service will cover all of zone three, including areas such as Streatham, Dulwich, Lewisham, Muswell Hill, Wimbledon and City Airport.
The expansion comes one year after UberPool was launched in the capital. Uber's ride-sharing service allows users to share their journey with other people heading in the same direction and offers passengers a fixed fare that's around 25 per cent less than UberX, the next cheapest option.
In May the service was expanded to cover more parts of London, including Hackney, Hammersmith, Peckham and Holloway. By June, Uber said its ride-sharing option had been used by more than one million people since it first became available.
“We’re really pleased so many Londoners have chosen to share their Uber journeys over the last year," said Uber's London manager, Tom Elvidge.
"It’s not just great for their wallets, but good for tackling congestion and emissions in our city too. By doubling the size of the UberPool area we hope to get more people into fewer cars. In a city where more than one million people still drive to work each day we want to give more commuters the option to leave their own car behind.”
