Two dead, third person airlifted to London hospital after car overturns on Isle of Dogs, near Canary Wharf
Two people have died after a car overturned near to financial district Canary Wharf this morning.
Emergency services including the police, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade were called to Marsh Wall, near Manchester Road on the Isle of Dogs just after 5am this morning.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police told City A.M. that two passengers in the car – a man and a woman – had been pronounced dead at the scene.
A third passenger – a man believed to be in his 20s – suffered arm injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in east London.
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5.19am this morning (Friday 22 January) to reports of a road traffic collision at Marsh Wall in E14. We sent a number of resources to the scene including the hazardous area response team (HART) and a medical team from London's Air Ambulance by car to the scene.
"Sadly, despite extensive efforts, two patients were pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance. We also treated a man reported to be in his 20s for an arm injury. He was taken as a priority to hospital escorted by the doctor."
Update: Police this afternoon have revealed further details of the incident, which it has now said was caused by a collision between a BMW and a van.
The driver has been identified as a 23-year-old man. He along with an 18-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was not injured.
