Tube strike called off as new RMT boss claims concessions
STRIKE action due to go ahead next Tuesday was called off yesterday following talks between Transport for London, the RMT union and mediator Acas.
The strike action was called by the RMT’s new director general Mick Cash. “The RMT has been able to secure significant movement in three key areas which have allowed our executive to suspend both the action scheduled for next week and the on-going overtime ban,” he said.
The union said a further reduction in the number of jobs under threat has been confirmed, as well as further salary and location guarantees for staff with medical restrictions.
A spokesperson for TfL, however, said that no additional promises had been made to the RMT. “What we’d offered before the strike threat is exactly the same as what the RMT has been offered post strike threat.”
London Underground said it was pleased with the outcome.
