Trinity Mirror shares tumble on hacking claims
Shares in newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror slumped this morning on claims that it was involved in phone hacking.
A lawyer lodged the claims in court yesterday on behalf of Sven Goran-Eriksson and three others.
The Daily Mirror publisher has previously denied any involvement with phone hacking. The publisher said in a statement today it had yet to receive any claims, and it repeated assurances that its journalists worked within the law.
“We have not yet received any claims nor have we been provided with any substantiation for those claims,” Trinity Mirror said.
News International, headed up by Rupert Murdoch, is the only publisher previously sued for phone hacking, leading to the closure of the News of the World newspaper.
Trinity Mirror shares were trading down 12.5 per cent at 09.45 am.
