Treasury to launch boardroom search for Whitehall finance job
THE TREASURY plans to launch a search today for a newly created position to help oversee public finances at Whitehall.
Chief Treasury secretary Danny Alexander is expected to announce the new senior role today alongside the release of the results of a financial management review across Whitehall, a person familiar with the situation confirmed.
The Treasury is understood to be looking for candidates from FTSE 100 companies with public sector experience as well as civil servants, in a radical new approach.
The person will report directly to the Treasury’s second permanent secretary Sharon White and will also assume responsibility for public spending and the government’s finance staff, according to the Financial Times.
Alexander and the chancellor George Osborne announced a review of financial management across Whitehall in June.
It followed a critical report from the National Audit Office, which called for stronger management to enable departments to speed up service restructuring.
