Travelodge opens seven new hotels ahead of domestic summer travel boom
Travelodge, what is thought to be the UK’s first budget hotel chain, have opened the doors to seven new hotels today following a £70m injection.
The seven properties, which form part of 17 hotels that are expected to open later this year, are set to create around 150 jobs.
Dotted across St Albans, Boston, Faringdon, Poole, Witney and Bristol – where two hotels have opened – the hotel chain has branched out ahead of a summer of mainly domestic travel.
“We are delighted to mark the start of the summer holiday season by extending our UK hotel network by officially opening seven new hotels in one day and taking the Travelodge brand to four new markets,” CEO Craig Bonnar said.
“With more Britons holidaying on British shores this year, we are well placed to support the nation with their Staycation breaks by having hotels in the right locations at a great value price.”
London’s St Albans new hotel will be the group’s 12th Travelodge Plus, a ‘budget chic’ twist on the group’s usual offering.
In response to strong consumer demand, Bristol, Faringdon and St Albans’ hotels opening today will feature the chain’s premium economy SuperRoom.
The new SuperRoom additions rally the number of premium economy rooms to over 2,000 across the UK, Ireland and Spain – as travellers seek a little more luxury than in previous years.
“These seven new properties not only extend our UK network to 578 hotels but also offer even more great value choice to business and leisure customers whilst playing a pivotal role in supporting local economies,” the CEO added.
