The Tour de France comes to the City
THOUSANDS of spectators lined the riverside to cheer on the Tour de France cyclists yesterday as they sped through the City.
The 155km-long Cambridge to London stretch of the race yesterday saw the competitors cut across the north end of the Isle of Dogs, passing Canary Wharf yesterday afternoon.
They entered the City minutes later at Tower Bridge, continuing along the north bank of the Thames to leave the City at Temple. The route took them to Westminster then up along the Mall to finish for the day.
German cyclist Marcel Kittel won the third stage in three hours and 38 minutes, his second victory of the Tour – he also won on day one in Yorkshire.
