Tottenham snap up former United star Fryers
TOTTENHAM have signed former Manchester United left-back Zeki Fryers from Standard Liege for a fee thought to be around £3m.
Freyers, 20, trained with Spurs last summer after failing to agree a new United contract but the move never transpired. As he was under 23, his former club would have been entitled to up to £6m compensation from a domestic rival.
Fryers was capped by England at Under-16, -17 and -19 level and only made seven appearances for Liege during his short spell in Belgium.
West Ham are set to confirm the return of Joe Cole to his boyhood club today. The Hammers must register the deal by noon for the former England international to feature tomorrow against Manchester United in the FA Cup.
The Upton Park side yesterday signed Republic of Ireland Under-19 striker Sean Maguire from Waterford United and look set to land Arsenal outcast Marouane Chamakh on loan. The Morocco forward has scored only 14 times in 67 appearances.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to secure Theo Walcott’s future before making any signings. “First of all we have to make sure the players who are here stay here,” said Wenger. “Let’s first try to finalise with Theo Walcott.”
