Tottenham keep faith with Sherwood as De Boer focuses on Ajax
TOTTENHAM interim manager Tim Sherwood is set to remain in charge for Sunday’s trip to Southampton despite suffering a Capital One Cup exit to London rivals West Ham in his first match.
Sherwood confirmed after the midweek 2-1 defeat that he hoped to keep the job, while admitting he was unsure he would remain in charge this weekend, though the club moved to ease those concerns.
A more experienced candidate is believed to remain the target as Sherwood, who stepped in following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas on Monday, has never manager before.
However, two possible targets appeared to grow more distant yesterday. The agent of Ajax head coach Frank de Boer, who has led his club to three consecutive Dutch titles, said: “Through various channels it has become clear to me that Spurs are interested, but the club has not approached Ajax. So for us there is not much to say about it. Frank focuses entirely on Ajax.”
Swansea boss Michael Laudrup’s assistant Morten Wieghorst, meanwhile, says he expects the Dane to stay at the Welsh club: “I don’t think the club should be worried.”
