Tottenham frustrated in Saido Berahino transfer bid
Tottenham are set to have to splash out in excess of £20m to prise England Under-21 striker Saido Berahino from West Brom after having an £18m bid rejected yesterday.
Berahino, who scored 20 goals across all competitions last season, has been identified as the man to strengthen the north London club’s goalscoring reserves, with Harry Kane currently their only recognised frontman.
“We have no interest in selling Saido which is what I have told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy,” said West Brom counterpart Jeremy Peace.
“I know we are living in an age where no club can say ‘never’ about the possibility of selling a player. However, the prospect of selling Saido is simply not on our agenda.”
Misfiring forward Roberto Soldado, meanwhile, has completed his move to Spanish side Villarreal, with Spurs recouping £7m of the £26m outlay they made in 2013.
