Tories gain more support for jobs tax pledge
THE TORIES were last night claiming another victory in the battle over National Insurance, after three business leaders added their names to a letter condemning Labour plans to hike the “tax on jobs” after the election.
Tory sources said that Yell chairman and ex-Merrill Lynch banker Bob Wigley had decided to support the campaign, along with Tim Steiner, the boss of grocery delivery firm Ocado. And the founder and chief executive of online fashion retailer Asos, Nick Robertson, is also planning to lend his support.
The move follows last week’s letter from more than 20 high-profile business leaders, which publicly backed Osborne’s pledge to scrap the tax hike. It was signed by several blue chip chief executives including J Sainsbury boss Justin King and Kingfisher supremo Ian Cheshire.
