Topshop gets shirty over loss of Rihanna case
POPSTAR Rihanna yesterday came out tops in her High Court legal battle against Arcadia – the owner of high street retailer Topshop.
The case was brought by RiRi – who used her real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty – because of an image of the star that Topshop used on its Rihanna tank t-shirt, which was sold in 2011 and 2012, without the singer’s permission.
Topshop said yesterday it was “surprised and disappointed by the judgment”.
However, the canny retailer was quick to take the opportunity to name-drop one of its genuine celebrity endorsements, saying: “We robustly dispute the judge’s conclusion. We believe that our customers clearly understand when we are undertaking a collaboration such as the one we created with Kate Moss.”
