Tiger’s winless run goes on as McDowell triumphs in play-off
NORTHERN IRELAND’S Graeme McDowell sank a brilliant birdie putt on the first extra hole to beat Tiger Woods in a play-off and clinch the Chevron World Challenge.
Defeat meant Woods finished the 2010 season without a title, the first time he’s been winless since joining the PGA Tour in 1996. It also marks the first time Woods has lost a tournament after leading by at least three shots going into the final round.
The world No2 fired a closing 73 to McDowell’s 69 as both players ended on 16 under. McDowell chipped away at Woods’ advantage early on and led by two after the 13th before the pair tied at the end of 72 holes.
Meanwhile, England’s Lee Westwood underlined his position as world No1 with a dominant display to capture the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa.
Westwood chipped in at the last to win by eight shots from Tim Clark and end his season in style.
