Three things you didn’t know about…
Nikkei chairman Tsuneo Kita
1 Back in 2012 he tangled with a Japanese gossip mag that had printed rumours about his private life.
2 The 68-year-old has had his eye on the Financial Times for a while, registering his interest in the paper with Pearson execs over several years.
3 Kita first joined publishing house Nikkei fresh out of university in 1971, and has worked there ever since.
■ Sunday is usually a day of rest, of reflection and, annoyingly, of never making it to the shops when they’re open. It seems the team at Canary Wharf’s Boots were bent on shirking the tradition when a local spotted their weekly opening hours. You would normally expect stores to open from midday on a Sunday and close early in the evening. According to a typo in the store’s window, Boots is open from 12:30am-6:00pm. After Twitter users pointed out how shattered Canary Wharf staff must be, Boots said it is looking into the situation.
