THREE OTHER HOTEL RESTAURANTS
Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley
Wareing broke loose of his boss Gordon Ramsay earlier last year and since then, his double Michelin-starred restaurant has been a major draw. It is critically adored for its innovative food and elegant décor and service. Stand-out dishes include a 24-hour cooked Welsh suckling pig with chicory. The Berkeley, Wilton Place, SW1X 7RL, tel: 020 7235 6000.
Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s
Ramsay’s excellent dining room is number one on the discerning birthday-treaters list – as well as those wanting something a little special for their clients. Its old-world opulence sits perfectly within the venerable hotel – as do its hearty dishes, such as Highland venison Wellington with smoked potato purée. Brook Street, W1K 4HR, tel: 020 7499 0099.
Helene Darroze at the Connaught
Now here’s an example of a European chef – with a name overseas but not here – coming over to London and making it from the moment she arrived. The dining room is stylish and plush, the service perhaps a bit over-attentive, and the food utterly delightful – die-hard French with Asian accents. Carlos Place, W1K 2AL, tel: 020 7499 7070.
