THREE OTHER HEAVING CITY RESTAURANTS
THE ANTHOLOGIST
Nearly the same as the Folly, but “darker” as the Folly manager puts it, with a pink butterfly as its logo. It’s also smaller. But passing down Gresham Street it’s more of a mellow, tempting den than a dingy dive. A proper nightspot, with “Soul Saturdays”, a good wine list and a huge variety of grazing and proper food menus ensure it’s always buzzing. 8 Gresham Street, EC2V 7BB.
GOODMAN
The sibling of the hit Russian-owned steak joint in Mayfair, the best thing about the City branch is the visible meat room, so that you can choose the piece of cow – side and loin rather than cute little ears or tail – that you want sliced up and cooked for you. It’s such a hit with the City crowd that you’d best book well in advance. 11 Old Jewry, EC2R 8DU.
THE MERCER
A more formal option for lunchers near Bank, The Mercer packs a serious culinary hit. The interior is gracious, with high ceillings and nice globular lights. There is an emphasis on meat and the daily specials ensure you’ll be well fed. Service is impeccable and geared towards people in a hurry. The result? A packed restaurant. 34 Threadneedle Street, EC2R 8AY.
