Among the hordes of unfortunate holidaymakers, Thomas Cook, 29, and his partner Amelia Binch, 27, from Hucknall, Nottinghamshire were left stranded in Rhodes after booking the firm’s dream getaway and wedding package.
Their ceremony was due to take place at the Lindos Princess Hotel on 27 September with guests due to fly to Rhodes over the coming days.
But half the guests remain stuck in the UK due to the tour operator’s fall into liquidation, and the couple could be called to the airport at any time for a repatriation flight.
Cook told the Nottingham Post that he has been left “shattered” by the ordeal.
“Thomas Cook promised us a surprise on our wedding because of my name but this was not the surprise we were expecting,” the unfortunate groom also told the publication.
The pair have spent two years planning the wedding, and have spent almost £10,000 on the wedding, the Post reported.
“It’s awful, you don’t expect it to happen with a company like this,” Binch added. “That’s why we booked with them. It is now going to cost us more.”
